The peninsula of Chalkidiki, which resembles the trident of Poseidon, is located south of Thessaloniki, between two bays, Thermaikos and Stryonikos. It consists of three smaller peninsulas, Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos, and its coastline is approximately 550 klm. long.
